Parallel Consulting works closely with leading researchers in the field of medical education and traffic injury prevention to translate research findings into useful products. All of our training products are designed to teach skills that cover effective communication, improved decision making, and using practical strategies.

Medical Education

We are currently developing a system that automatically identifies diagnostic reasoning deficits demonstrated in Diagnostic Justification (DXJ) essays and provides targeted remediation in partnership with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIUSOM). Following a standardized patient encounter students complete a short diagnosis justification essay explaining how they used pertinent findings to work from an initial set of hypotheses to a final diagnosis. A DXJ essay requires students to articulate their understanding of biomedical information and diagnostic reasoning from the initial chief complaint to the final diagnosis.

The DXJ Checkup

  • The DXJ Check up uses natural language processing technologies to score essays and identify reasoning failures
  • Developed with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIUSOM)
  • Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS)

Driver's Education

Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death and injury for teens. We know that inexperience, rather than aggressive or intentionally risky driving, is the main cause of crashes among new drivers. Our products are designed to teach teens the skills they need to handle a vehicle safely.
